Birth in hospital
The birth of a child is a very special event for the parents. It should take place where the parents-to-be feel they are in good hands. Many couples decide to give birth in hospital. There are special information evenings in all hospitals. At these evenings, you can get an impression of the delivery room and the maternity ward and find out more about the obstetrics in the respective hospital.
Hospital birth with an affiliated midwife
For the birth of your child in the context of a so-called "in-patient birth", you and your midwife go to a predetermined hospital for the birth, where your midwife offers in-patient births. This option has the advantage for you that you will be cared for by the midwife with whom you have already built up a relationship of trust. The costs for the birth attendance are covered by your health insurance. As the midwife will also be on call for you, she will be charged an on-call fee, which you will have to pay in full or in part yourself.
If the pregnancy progresses without complications, it is also possible to give birth outside the hospital.
Home birth
A home birth can be considered if the pregnancy is risk-free and there are no complications. The supervising midwife will then come to your home and accompany you during the birth of your child in your own four walls. Your familiar surroundings can help you to relax better during the birth.
The costs for home birth care are covered by health insurance. The midwife is permanently available for you during the calculated birth period. You will have to pay part of the costs for the on-call flat rate, which varies from region to region and from person to person - please speak to your health insurance provider about this.
Birth in the birth center
If you give birth in a birthing center, your child will be born there under the supervision of a midwife. The same conditions apply for a birth there as for a home birth: the pregnancy must be risk-free and the course of the pregnancy must be free of complications. You will have to pay part of the costs for the on-call flat rate, which varies from region to region and from person to person - please speak to your health insurance provider about this.
