My name is Janina Reitz, I am a state-approved social worker and since April I have been studying for a Master's degree in "Therapeutic Work with Children and Adolescents" at Hanover University of Applied Sciences and Arts. At the same time, I am training to become a child and adolescent psychotherapist at the Winnicott Institute.

As part of my training, a so-called "participatory infant observation" is planned. For this, I am looking for a family with a newborn (initially around 0-3 months old) who are willing to give me an insight into their everyday family life once a week for about an hour over a period of around 12 months.

During this time, I only take on an observational role. The aim is to carefully observe and better understand the early development of children and the relationship between the baby and its caregivers. Naturally, the observation is subject to confidentiality and is professionally supervised by my training institute.

You as a family do not have to fulfill any special requirements and even everyday situations (or even a sleeping baby) are valuable for the observation.

Dear Parents,
I am currently training to become a child and adolescent psychotherapist at the Winnicott Institute in Hanover, and as part of my training, I am required to conduct participatory infant observation.
For this purpose, I am looking for a family who is willing to allow me regular insight
into their daily life during their baby’s first year. Specifically, I would visit
about once a week for an hour over a period of approximately 12 months (a total of about 40 visits). Being able to
accompany this special time in the life of a child and their family is of great
importance for my future work as a child and adolescent psychotherapist. The first
months of life are a significant phase in which development manifests itself in many ways. The goal is to observe
and better understand the child’s development as well
as their interactions with their caregivers. In doing so, I do not intervene either by taking action or offering advice, but rather participate in the situation
solely as an observer. This approach of being attentive without
intervening is an important part of my training and helps me to interact with children appropriately in a
therapeutic context later on.
There are no special requirements for you and your baby; in other words, you can go about your normal
daily routine. Of course, I treat all observations as strictly confidential and treat
you and your child with great appreciation and respect.
